Michigan welcomes the San Diego State Aztecs in 2011 for $1 million dollars

San Diego State just sold its soul for a shade over $1 million dollars. The Aztecs agreed to travel to Ann Arbor to play the Michigan Wolverines in 2011. To date, this will be the largest payout in Aztecs history and will certainly cover a significant portion of the school’s football expenses. It is no secret that the Aztecs have had financial difficulties in the last few seasons and were aggressively seeking a big payday. The AD would have scheduled any power conference team as long as the price was right.

This is a win-win situation for both programs. Michigan needs all the victories it can get (the Aztecs are 0-21 since 1999 against powerhouse programs), and San Diego State is in dire need of money. There is a connection between the two programs as Aztecs head coach Brady Hoke was a one time assistant coach for the Wolverines. In 2004, the Aztecs traveled to Ann Arbor and received $500,000.00 in a 24-21 losing effort.

Michigan’s 2011 schedule is as follows:

Sept. 3: Western Michigan
Sept. 10: Notre Dame
Sept. 17: Eastern Michigan
Sept. 24: San Diego State
Oct. 8: at Wisconsin
Oct. 15: Indiana
Oct. 22: at Michigan State
Oct. 29: at Iowa
Nov. 5: Minnesota
Nov. 12: Illinois
Nov. 19: at Northwestern
Nov. 26: Ohio State
