Jacques Rickerson (#23) breaking up a pass against rival Florida State in November 2007

Former Florida Gator DB Jacques Rickerson took his love of the internet and women a little too far. This past Thursday, he was arrested by the Alachua County sheriff’s department for cyberstalking, a first-degree misdemeanor, and domestic battery by strangulation, a third-degree felony. He is currently on a $45,000.00 bond.

Rickerson is no stranger to handcuffs as this is the second time in 2 years that he has been arrested and charged with domestic battery by strangulation. Additionally, during the 2007 season Rickerson was suspended for one game after he pleaded no contest to possession of marijuana. During the 2008 season, he was dismissed from the team for violently chocking, slapping and hitting his girlfriend. When she began screaming he smothered her face with a pillow to keep her quiet. He also held her against her will and prevented her from using her cell phone and from leaving. As a result of this incident, Rickerson got slapped with three years probation and was banned from the Florida campus. Later that year, he was arrested again, this time for trespassing after he was found near the Keys residential complex at Florida. Rickerson transferred to Alabama State and found himself on the roster, but did not really see the field.

With Rickerson’s prior criminal charges coupled with his current felony charge, it is safe to say he will do some time behind bars. This is a shame in that Rickerson had all the potential in the world to be a star defensive back. He should be playing football on Sundays, not scrubbing the latrines.
