Boise State and Virginia Tech have inked a deal to play at FedEx Field on October 2, 2010. This is coming off of the most recent news of Syracuse backing down from Virginia Tech. This will be the first match-up between these two programs. Virginia Tech will be the home team and will have the television rights. Meanwhile, Boise State will receive an estimated payout of $1.25 million to play the Hokies.

This is a great match-up and venue for the Hokies as there is an enormous fan and alumni base in the Washington D.C. area. Also, this will help gain national recognition for Boise State and the Western Athletic Conference. As Boise’s coach Chris Petersen  states, “We are very excited about facing the caliber of a team like Virginia Tech.”

Both schools have had recent success. The Hokies are 100-30 in the last 10 years. Boise State is 108-20 in that time. The last big college game played in Landover, Maryland was the USC-Virginia Tech showdown in 2004. The Trojans won 24-13.
