Former star QB Ryan Leaf went from college stud, to NFL dud, to infamous convict

Former Washington State QB and NFL bust Ryan Leaf will plead guilty for his involvement with drugs and burglary. In exchange for the guilty plea, he will get 10 years of probation and pay a $20,000.00 fine. Assuming the judge accepts the plea, Leaf can put his Hydrocodone addiction behind him.

If you don’t recall, Ryan Leaf was a stud at Washington State and was a top NFL draft pick. After his four year stint in the NFL he retired due to poor performance and a nagging wrist injury. Eventually he found a position as quarterbacks coach at West Texas A&M in sunny Canyon Texas. It was in this desolate town where Leaf began to get into some serious trouble. He became addicted to painkillers to the point where he couldn’t live without them. The charges against him stem from his breaking and entering into a Canyon apartment in October 2008. He stole the prescription drug Hydrocodone from one of A&M’s players.

Fortunately, part of the plea agreement will require Leaf to attend counseling and random drug testing. Any violation of his probation can and will result in jail time. In a nutshell, Leaf has to stay clean for 10 years.

In the meantime, Leaf is out of football all together and reports indicate he is selling vacation packages to corporate clients at a beach resort. It’s amazing how not too long ago, Leaf was riding the fame of being a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and 2nd in the NFL draft behind Peyton Manning. Now his life is in serious jeopardy if he doesn’t straighten up.
