Highly touted running back Bryce Brown is leaving the Tennessee Volunteers. The rising sophomore missed Tennessee’s first day of spring practice on Thursday and informed new head coach Derek Dooley along with other members of the UT coaching staff that he would not be returning. This news comes as a huge shock to the Volunteer faithful as Brown was one of Tennessee’s most highly recruited prospects in recent history and many expected him to shatter several rushing records by the time he left Knoxville for NFL riches. Brown played in 12 games for the Vols last season and averaged a little over 4.6 yards per carry.
As of now, Brown is still enrolled in classes at Tennessee and no mention has been made as to where he is considering transferring if at all. Brown made quite the media splash last season by waffling on his commitment to Miami and signing with Tennessee after Lane Kiffin was named head coach.
This is definitely disheartening news for Dooley and the new coaching regime, hopefully the Vols can find a comparable replacement for Brown by early September.
