QB Geno Smith (#12) is down, but not out. Expect to see West Virginia'a rising star ready to play come kick-off time

Concerns are on the rise at West Virginia as QB Geno Smith will miss spring practice due to a broken foot injury. The heir apparent to Jarrett Brown broke his foot while participating earlier this year in team conditioning drills. Smith’s injury was originally going to sideline him for six weeks, but his continued pain and slower than anticipated recover is keeping him on the bench this spring.

This should cause concern for the Mountaineers since their depth chart at QB is not deep at all. The only other scholarship QB is redshirt sophomore Coley White who has little game time experience.

Smith’s injury may prove to be more lasting than thought, as he will be missing valuable experience during the spring. Though White will take snaps for the next couple of weeks, expect to see Smith under center come kick-off time.

The question remains, how much will this injury affect the team in the long run.
