Floyd must act like a team leader

It looks like Notre Dame’s star wide receiver is not immune to the law, even in his home state. This past Thursday at a house party near the frozen lakes of Minnesota, Michael Floyd was pounding some beers and drinking a couple of shots with his hometown pals.

Apparently during the festivities, a fight involving 6-10 people broke out and spilled into the streets (at the intersection of 15th Av. SE and 6th St. SE) and Floyd wanted to make sure he got in a swing or two. Joining Floyd was former high school teammate and current Gopher Shady Salamon.

After the milieu and with the shouting of 5.0, Floyd and company jumped into a lady friends car and drove off into the night. Unfortunately, the police were right on his tail and caught up to the vehicle. When pulled over, Floyd was seated in the passenger’s seat with a blood stained shirt, hands, and feet.

When the officer asked what happened, Floyd simply said he was involved in an altercation with a Somali male at a house party and admitted he had been drinking. As a result of his immediate confession, Floyd was cited for misdemeanor underage consumption of alcohol.

It looks like Thirsty Thursday wasn’t such a hot idea for the ND star receiver. With Golden Tate off to the NFL, Floyd is the #1 returning receiver and must act like a team leader and role model for the younger players. It will be interesting to see how Brian Kelly handles the situation and how his teammates react. As the first year ND head coach, Kelly has a no-nonsense approach with his players.

At this time, the only advice The Matador can offer Mr. Floyd is to contact former ND safety Tom Zbikowski. He should mentor Floyd on the art of boxing and teach him how to slip the jab.
