Bowden was carried off of the fied after the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl. The 33-21 victory over West Virginia marked his last game as the head coach for the Seminoles.

Bobby Bowden’s New Year’s gift from the NCAA–a rejection letter. Rumors are speculating that the NCAA has rejected Florida State’s appeal in lieu of the school’s academic cheating scandal.

For Bowden, this means that he may lose up to 14 of his 389 career victories. The exact number will be determined and enforced after a complete examination of every game in which ineligible players played.

This news would be more meaningful if Florida State didn’t push Bowden to retirement. If he were to continue to coach, the battle between Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden would certainly have lost the suspense with the forfeiting of up to 14 games. As it stands, JoePa has a slight lead over Bowden in the career wins category, 394- to 389.
