Army and Notre Dame have recently signed on to play a football game at the new New York Yankee stadium. The game is currently scheduled to be played on the evening of November 20, 2010 and it would be the first football game held in the stadium. Current Irish coach and Trenton, NJ native, Charlie Weis is no stranger to football in NYC as he attended Giant football games in the old baseball stadium as a youth. While talking to Yankee boss George Steinbrenner at Spring training a couple of years ago he teased him about bringing football back to Yankee Stadium.
The two teams have previously met twenty-two times in the now defunct Yankee stadium and have played numerous times in the past fifty years. The series has plenty of history as it has bought us the famous “Win one for the Gipper” speech, and the “Game of the Century” in 1946 that resulted in a tie for both teams. Even if you’re not a fan of either team this match up is good for college football if for the historical relevance that it carries. Tickets for this one are sure to go faster than A-Rod at a Madonna concert.
