Grambling must get its band under control

The Grambling State and Prairie View bands seem to play to the beat of a different drum much to the dismay of the SWAC. The conference is coming down on the school’s bands for playing at inappropriate times during last weekend’s football game.

The conference has strict rules regarding when bands can play. Apparently, both bands played while the other team’s offense approached the line of scrimmage causing distraction. The rule is very clear that bands must stop once the offense breaks the huddle. Even though both directors were warned during the game by officials and announcers, they continued to disregard the warnings and played when deemed appropriate.

If the bands continue this trend in the upcoming weeks, they can face strict sanctions to include game suspensions. Unfortunately, whether the band plays or not, both football teams need to focus more on playing good football.
