Irish Lose Floyd For Season

Star Notre Dame wideout Michael Floyd will more than likely miss the rest of the 2009 football season with a broken collarbone. No solid timetable has been set for his return as of now but it would be highly optimistic to say that he will even make it back in time should Notre Dame get invited to a bowl game. Floyd underwent surgery early this morning in South Bend to repair his collarbone which was broken in Saturday’s win over Michigan State. The loss of Floyd is huge for the Fighting Irish as he had established great chemistry with trigger man Jimmy Clausen.

Floyd has been the Irish’s best wide receiver this season catching 13 passes for 358 yards and 5 touchdowns in 3 games. Their offensive production will certainly dip but WR Golden Tate, TE Kyle Rudolph, and RB Armando Allen will have to step up to the plate and fill the void left by his absence. ND head coach Charlie Weis is currently on the hot seat and is expected to produce a good amount of wins this season if he wants to take the pressure off. This is definitely a setback for Weis and time will only tell how well he can recover from it.
