Darren Evans, last year’s Orange Bowl MVP, suffered a season ending ACL tear during Virginia Tech’s practice yesterday. This is a huge loss to the Hokies as Evans set numerous conference and school records last year as a freshman. His breakout performance of the  season came against Maryland when he rushed for a school best 253 yards. He played a large role in VT’s conference and BCS bowl victories and expectations for him in Blacksburg and in the ACC were extremely high heading into this season. The loss of Evans is huge but the Hokies have several talented running backs on the depth chart that will step up and help carry the load in his absence.

The injury will place a lot of pressure on QB Tyrod Taylor and the passing game, but Tech will be fine once a running back emerges as the clear cut starter. VT head coach Frank Beamer is an exceptional coach and there’s no doubt that he will plan accordingly and keep Tech in the hunt for the ACC crown.
