Would you trade a toe for a championship?

In 2004, Iowa defensive coordinator Norm Parker, who suffers from diabetes, unfortunately had his left toe removed because of a serious infection. Coincidentally, the Hawkeyes won the Big Ten Championship that year and defeated LSU in the 2005 Capital One Bowl, 30-25.

This year while on vacation, Parker met the same fate. He had surgery on his right foot because of an infected blister on the right toe. Now he is known as Norm “Eight Toe” Parker. If history is to repeat itself, Iowa and company should win the Big Ten Championship this year. If they do, I’m concerned Parker may cut off another toe next season for back-to-back titles.

Norm Parker, who is doing a superb job, is in his 11th season as Iowa’s defense coordinator.
