Colorado's Rashaan Salaam sells Heisman ring to raise money for failing business

The 1994 Heisman Trophy winner Rashaan Iman Salaam recently sold his Heisman ring for $9,768 according to Nate D. Sanders Auctions.  The ring, which was a size 11.5 behemoth, boasted over 20 diamonds totaling 1.5 carats and was anticipated to garner $15,000 – $25,000.  Unfortunately, the one-of-a kind memorabilia sold for significantly less than the estimated price.

Salaam, who is still beloved by Colorado fans, was hoping for a big pay-day. After an outstanding collegiate career followed by a short lived NFL stint, Salaam became an entrepreneur.  However, his newest venture of marketing mixed martial arts (Art of  War) around the world failed to be as fruitful as anticipated.  Salaam was in a position where he needed to raise much needed money to support his newest venture.  He decided to part with his Heisman ring (not the bronze statue) to raise capital, but the fans did not pay.

Salaam was an All-American running back sensation for Colorado from 1992 to 1994 racking up a stunning school record 2,055 yards his junior year to take home the Heisman.  Salaam was eventually drafted in the 1st round by the NFL’s Chicago Bears, but after a strong rookie season amassing 1,074 rushing yards, his NFL career was cut short when plagued by injuries.

Salaam currently resides in San Diego, and is still pursuing his mixed martial arts events overseas primarily in China.
