10 greatest female sportscasters of all time

As with breaking into any male-dominated field, women who’ve aspired to become sportscasters have been forced to endure sexism, chauvinism, and a glass ceiling that has prevented many of them from reaching their full potential. Even still, they’ve come a long way in a relatively short period of time, as this generation has been the first and most accepting of their presence in the studios, on the sidelines, and in the booth. Since Phyllis George became a co-host on...

Video footage of Gary Pinkel’s failed sobriety test

Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel, who was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Wednesday night, clearly had trouble with his sobriety test. As you can see from police video footage, Pinkel couldn’t recite the alphabet from “E” to “R” and refused to count backwards when asked. Though he was mostly cooperative with the officer, it wasn’t enough go get him a warning. It appears he misjudged his “two glasses of wine.” Missouri suspended Pinkel for Saturday’s game against Texas...

The media is to blame for the public’s lost perspective on Penn State

Ever since the grand jury report went viral, the media has been on a mission to crucify Penn State and its top brass. What the media failed to highlight was everyone fired or placed on administrative leave is entitled to due process. Those implicated in the scandal, by law, are innocent until proven guilty. Being the allegations in the grand jury report were so horrendous, the media sent the compelling message that all allegations in the grand jury report...

College football’s 10 most-hyped games of all time

No sport does big games like college football. With just a small handful of matchups per season, one loss can result in the ruination of your quest for a national title — of course, the biggest games typically involve the top teams in the nation. The drama is only heightened if the matchup involves two bitter rivals, such as USC and UCLA, who are battling over regional bragging rights and recruiting territory, the latter of which determines how long...

Gay student caught kissing boy, suspended and kicked off cheerleading team

If you are a student/athlete at Alice High School in Alice, Texas, you will be kicked off your respective sport if you are caught kissing someone of the same sex.  This just happened to a 17 year-old male, who was on the school’s varsity cheerleading team.  The young male was seen kissing a boy inside the school’s band room last week when the school’s surveillance camera caught him in action.  As punishment, the school kicked him off the Coyotes cheerleading squad...

10 sports flicks that transcended the game

In the grand scheme of things, sports aren’t very important. Sometimes it’s difficult not to feel stupid being so emotionally invested in an activity involving grown men wearing tights and chasing after a ball. But, more than just an escape from reality, sports can be a conduit for conveying life’s struggles — along with the more meaningful stuff. The following sports flicks contain themes and lessons to which everyone can relate, making them classics regardless of their genre. 1....

Part-time hostess tackles Indianapolis Colts’ unlawful practice

The Indianapolis Colts are in the news again and the focus is not on Peyton Manning, but rather the front office. On October 5, 2011, a former part-time hostess on the Colts’ statistics crew filed a civil lawsuit against the team for violating the Fair Labor Standards Act. Colleen Fenstermaker worked for the Colts from 1998 to 2011 (she alleges she was “wrongfully” terminated in September 2011). During that span, she was a part-time hostess who passed out game...
