UGA’s Derrick Lott will unfortunately miss the start of preseason camp after he was sidelined from a motor scooter accident last weekend. At approximately 3:35 pm, Lott was driving his scooter to an on-campus parking lot when he inadvertently scraped the side of the Butts-Mehre building with his leg causing his injury.
As a result of the impact, Lott sustained a deep laceration on his right calf. He underwent surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital and doctors were optimistic that he will fully recovery. Though not considered a serious injury, the backup defensive end will be out for at least four to six weeks. If all goes well, the star defensive end will be up and ready by the second week of preseason camp.
Lott saw limited action last season making seven tackles in three games. According to the UGA depth chart, Lott is listed as DeAngelo Tyson’s backup.
The police have filed no charges.
