Former Washington State special teams specialist Derrick Dillon was charged with first-degree robbery for a bank robbery earlier this month in the city of Shoreline, Washington. As a result of this nabbing, Dillon is also a suspect in two other bank robberies. The King County police have been investigating the speedster for holding up a bank in Milton on June 8 and Snohomish County on May 31. In Milton, Dillon apparently passed a note to an unsuspecting bank teller that read “I have a gun! I want all 50’s and 100’s no dye packs.” From the two heists, he got away with over $6,000.
The police were able to use surveillance cameras and family and friends to identify Dillon. His girlfriend recognized the photo and his parents, believing in their hearts it wasn’t him, immediately recognized their son. Investigators also used forensic evidence to link the hand written note with prior writing samples obtained from Dillon’s former employer in Phoenix.
Dillon was a standout high school athlete and played special teams for the Cougars. His playing days stalled after he broke his collar bone during his sophomore season. After football, his life took a turn for the worst. He assumed heavy debt and unfortunately became a cocaine addict. In an ironic twist, while in college, Dillon was studying to be an FBI agent.
Dillon is currently being held at the Seattle Correctional Facility. His bail amount is set at $225,000. He will be arraigned on June 30, 2011 in Seattle District Court.
