If you area heading out to the Michigan International Speedway for Father’s Day, all fans are in for a treat. Former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr will be today’s grand marshal for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 NASCAR Spring Cup race.
Carr lead this storied program from 1995-2007 winning the national championship in 1997, taking home five Big Ten titles, and ending his career with a thrilling bowl victory over the Florida Gators. During his 13 years at Michigan he compiled an impressive 122-40 overall record.
Carr, along with a Michigan contingent, will be at the speedway to promote the Wolverines for Life organization that encourages blood, organ, and tissue donations.
According to Carr, “Every day, 19 people die while waiting for a transplant. That’s a score we can’t live with.” Carr’s philanthropic endeavors goes beyond student-athletes as he played an integral part in the Mott’s Children’s Hospital and in raising money for the University of Michigan Comprehensive Center.
