Charlie Weis is headed for Gainesville

In the college ranks, Charlie Weis couldn't cut it as ND's head coach, perhaps he will excel as Florida's new offensive coordinator

With a new coaching crew taking over for the departing Urban Meyer, it looks like former Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis will leave the NFL to join the Gators’ coaching staff. Weis, who is currently the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs (who incidentally lead the NFL in rushing and have a top tiered offense), will assume the offensive play calling duties for Florida head coach Will Muschamp.

Though Weis’ Notre Dame days were anything but memorable, he always fielded a strong offense while developing quarterback talent. The offense is a part of the game that Muschamp admittedly knows he needs help with and wanted someone with a good college and NFL pedigree. During his ND days, he developed Jimmy Clausen into an NFL caliber QB and while in the NFL he brought home 3 Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots. It is an indisputable fact that he knows how to coach offense. Timing couldn’t be any better, as he is replacing Steve Addazio who was the scapegoat for Florida’s offensive failures as of late.

Weis will be an outstanding fit under Muschamp. He will provide Florida with some fresh air on the offensive side of the ball and he is an excellent recruiter. Weis’ official announcement is expected on Monday; however, he will continue to coach the Chiefs for the duration of their playoff run.
