Some disturbing news is coming out of the University of Memphis. Redshirt sophomore and starting quarterback, not to mention the son of the FedEx founder, Cannon Smith was arrested on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct earlier today.
After completing his final exams, Smith decided to do what every college student does, drink to oblivion. After his all night bender, Smith did the responsible thing and decided to take a cab home because he was too drunk to drive. Unfortunately, midway through the cab ride, he dug into his deep pockets only to realize he had no cash. Smith calmly began to try to talk his way out of paying, but it soon got out of hand. So much so, the police had to get involved.
The conversation quickly escalated, Smith tried to play the FedEx card, but he was ultimately arrested and booked at the Shelby County jail around 4:00 a.m. Smith was shortly released after his father, CEO Frederick Smith, FedEx’d Cannon’s bond money. Cannon is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
Coach Larry Porter was informed of the incident and will not make any decisions until Smith’s case is further investigated. This isn’t Smith’s first run-in with the law. He was arrested back in December 2006 when police found Smith with over $2000.00 worth of ecstasy tablets costing him his shot at Ole Miss.
