Beaver Stadium was quieter than Pattee Library during final exam week as Northwestern jumped out early for a 21-0 lead. However, the tide turned for Penn State with the Nittany Lions driving over 90 yards for a TD in the final seconds of the half to cut the lead to 21-7. Joe Paterno’s halftime pep talk and quest to reach 400 victories was more than enough inspiration for his players to come out storming in the second half.
The Nittany Lions, led by former walk-on and back-up QB Matt McGloin, scored 4 unanswered TDs in the second half to secure a 35-21 defeat over the Wildcats. Penn State is 6-3, bowl eligible, and found some new swagger with McGloin under center.
The new look Nittany Lions take on top ranked Ohio State next weekend in what will be a thrilling match-up between two high powered offenses.
Again, a much deserved congratulations to Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions!
