Buffaloes stampede Folsum Field

It wasn't pretty, but the Colorado Buffaloes outlasted the Georgia Bulldogs 29-27.

The last time the Colorado Buffaloes had reason to celebrate, George W. Bush was in office and the Buffs knocked off #21 West Virginia in an edge-of-your-seat 17-14 overtime victory. Fast forward to 2010, the Colorado nation now has something to cheer about after a strong non-conference showing going 3-1 with one setback at the hands of Cal 52-7.

The eyes of excitement were apparent by the ecstatic fans rushing Folsum Field after the Buffs upset Georgia 29-27 this past Saturday. The roar of the crowd could be heard from downtown Boulder to Colorado Springs after B.J. Beatty stripped the football from RB Caleb King with Jon Major recovering the fumble and preserving the unlikely win late in the 4th quarter. Though the Buffs beat a 1-4 team, it’s been a long time coming to celebrate anything football in Colorado. Fans were a little rusty rushing the field as no goal posts came down and no one was injured or arrested as they were back in 2002 when the Buffs took down the goal posts after clinching a spot in the Big 12 Championship game with a victory over Iowa State. On Saturday, the Colorado nation celebrated by hoisting players up in the air and singing with school spirit in a relatively civil manner. The field was cleared shortly thereafter with no incidents or arrests.

Colorado should enjoy their 3-1 record, but must be cautiously optimistic as conference play kicks-off next Saturday. The Buffaloes are 91st in passing yards, 53rd in rushing yards, 85th in points for, and 62nd in points against. These statistics are no reason to pop open the bubbly but it doesn’t mean coach Hawkins can’t ice the champagne as his job just got a little safer, for now.

Colorado travels to Missouri this Saturday to take on Gary Pinkel’s Tigers in their first conference game of the season.
