The Florida Gators have enough problems with their on the field issues, but off the field is another story. Starting WR Chris Rainey may have not fully recovered from last weeks concussion as he did an incredibly stupid thing last night. He was arrested for aggravated stalking, a third-degree felony in Florida. The alleged victim is Chris Rainey’s ex-girlfriend of 3 years. The incident arose when Rainey’s ex, who happened to fall asleep, wasn’t answering any of his phone calls late Monday night. Rainey assumed the worst, that his ex was with another guy, so he did what every stalker would do, went over to her house to see what’s going down.
When he got to her place, the conversation didn’t go as planned, so she politely asked him to leave. Whatever was discussed irked Rainey because moments after he unwillingly left he texted her its “Time To Die.” The direct threat did not sit well with the ex, so she immediately contacted the police. When officers arrived at the scene, they instructed her to call Rainey to let him know that the police want to talk to him. Of course Rainey was upset that his ex contacted the police so he unwisely threatened his ex again by stating, “wait and see what happens when they [police] leave.”
The police determined the threats to be significant in nature. They went over to Rainey’s apartment and arrested him where he was booked and locked up in Alachua County jail for aggravated stalking. For Urban Meyer, this is 147th arrest under the coach’s tenure. There is no denying Meyer’s coaching ability, but it’s clear he is having trouble controlling and disciplining his players. The university did not state whether or not Rainey will play this week against Tennessee.
Stay classy Florida.
