Maxpreps star and 6’8″ junior Connor Duffy from Kingsway Regional High School in South Jersey has a problem most teens never worry about, the size of his shoes. Duffy is in need of a new pair of cleats as the season opens on September 10th against Delsea. The problem is, the 300 pound brick wall wears size 22 canoes. No local cobbler sells anything bigger than size 18. The offensive lineman’s mother contacted Nike, Under Armor, Adidas, and every other shoe company under the sun to no avail. Right now, he is forcing on a pair of cleats that simply don’t fit which has caused him, as of late, to roll his ankle. If he doesn’t find proper footwear soon, his season will be in jeopardy.
Prior to Duffy’s feet eclipsing size 20, he wore a pair of size 19 shoes donated by Philadelphia 76ers 7’0” center Jason Smith. Unfortunately, size 19 is now too small. Duffy’s mother reached out to other professional teams. Most recently, she heard from the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles who offered to bring Duffy in for a special fitting, but the family is still waiting to hear back to set up an appointment. The New York Giants (fittingly named) and the Miami Dolphins both contacted Duffy to offer some assistance.
Much of this time could be an exercise in futility as Duffy is supposed to grow to 7’2” and his feet to boot. Rumor has it that Duffy’s favorite team is the Texas Longhorns. Whatever his shoe size may be, Mack Brown would certainly enjoy the services of Duffy protecting his gunslinger and opening gigantic lanes for his running backs.
In the meantime, if you have an extra pair of size 22 kicks laying around, please contact Duffy’s mother at Gretchen_duffy@yahoo.com. She could certainly use an extra pair for her son.
