Caleb Porzel withdraws from Maryland

The prized jewel of Maryland’s 2009 recruiting class has withdrawn from the university and will not be returning to College Park, MD.  Highly sought after RB Caleb Porzel brought high expectations to Maryland and garnered heavy praise from head coach Ralph Friedgen who declared: “when you see this kid, he’s going to take your breath away… I am happy he is playing for us.” Not so fast Ralph! After one year on campus Prozel has failed to stay afloat academically and missed most of Maryland’s spring practices as a result.

Prozel played in 7 games for the Terps last season as a freshman and carried the ball 30 times for 75 yards. While this is a striking blow to Maryland’s football program, the Terps have a crowded backfield that will be anchored by senior Da’Rel Scott. No mention has been made as to where Prozel will transfer to, but his departure does not bode well for Ralph Friedgen’s future as many in the Maryland community are calling for the coach’s head.
