Miami, Notre Dame to play in 2012

The Miami, Notre Dame rivalry will be revived during the 2012 college football season. The Hurricanes and Fighting Irish have agreed to a two game series which will kick-off on October 6th, 2012, at Chicago’s Soldier Field. This comes as great news for fans of college football as the two teams played in a number of memorable games in the rivalry’s heyday in the 1980s. As of now, Notre Dame holds the lead in the rivalry with a 15-7-1 record.

While the two game series won’t be what it once was in terms of national relevance, both teams should be on the upward ascent out of their current lull. Notre Dame and Miami have struggled to maintain their standing among the college football elite but both programs have shown traces of progress lately. Randy Shannon took Miami to the Champs Sports Bowl last season and reeled in the nation’s 16th best recruiting class in 2010 according to Rivals.com. Notre Dame also took a step in the right direction with the hiring of former Cincinnati front man Brian Kelly. It will be a treat to watch these bitter rivals battle it out on the gridiron.
