Former Oregon Duck QB Jeremiah Masoli (#8) will enter this year's NFL supplemental draft

Former Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli is looking for a different kind of limelight. NFL.com is reporting that the troubled Masoli will enter this year’s NFL supplemental draft which will be held on July 15th. His off-the field antics certainly cause concern over his commitment to not only football, but life in general.

Masoli, who was probably on parole at birth, has always been fighting the law. What first landed him in hot water at Oregon was his felony charges for stealing laptop computers and other valuables from the frat boys over at Sigma Alpha Epsilon. While he managed to plea those charges down to a misdemeanor, he was placed on one year probation for second-degree burglary charges. Meanwhile, Coach Chip Kelly suspended Masoli for the entire 2010 season.

This alone was not enough to straighten out Masoli. This past June, during his probation period, he was pulled over for failing to stop while entering a roadway. That in itself is not a big deal, but Masoli happened to be driving with a suspended license. To make matters worse, upon inspection officers found marijuana on Masoli and cited him for possession. Coach Kelly was disappointed in hearing this news and was forced to kick Masoli off of the team for failing to “adhere to obligations” as this was his second legal incident in 6 months.

Aside from Masoli’s penchant for crime, there is serious concern about his ability to play on Sundays. Although he leaves Oregon with the most rushing yards by a QB (1,386) in school history, he is not your prototypical QB. At 5’11, 214 lbs, he may find himself playing RB or lining-up in the wildcat formation.

Either way, let’s all hope Masoli gets drafted, cleans up his act, and salvages his already tainted career because in the end, I don’t want Masoli to rob me.
