Auburn RB Dontae Aycock was dismissed from the team on Friday

Auburn’s backfield got trimmed this weekend with the surprising dismissal of redshirt freshman Dontae Aycock. The RB was a Florida 5-A high school QB and top prospect by most major rating services. The 5’10 218 pound athlete played RB during spring practice and was set to fall into the Tigers’ backfield rotation.

The university announced that Aycock was dismissed from the program for violating team rules. Though the school did not provide further comment, there is speculation that prior to the dismissal Aycock approached coach Gene Chizik about transferring and being released from his scholarship. Apparently, this rubbed Chizik the wrong way and prompted the dismissal.

Aycock is a gifted player with great on-and-off the field presence. He will certainly shine wherever he ends up playing football. As for the Auburn faithful, there are still quality backs to replace Ben Tate in Mario Fannin, Onterio McCalebb and Michael Dyer.
