Someone was doing a little more than lifting weights during the off-season. It looks like USC’s tight end Rhett Ellison will be sidelined for the entire spring practice as he battles a bout of mono.
Rhett was the leading candidate to be the starting tight end for the new Lane Kiffin offense. Last season he played in all 13 games hauling in 6 catches, 41 yards, and 1 TD. With TE Blake Ayles nursing an ankle injury, the door is wide open for some freshman to shine and perhaps assume the starting position.
Let this be a lesson to all of you starters out there, be careful, stay healthy and focus on football. After all, that’s why you are on scholarship.
