Citadel's Kevin Higgins wishes he had a saint like Tim Tebow as a QB, not the gun slinging thug in Miguel Starks

The Citadel is generally known for producing distinguished alumni, not harden criminals. This past weekend QB Miguel Starks was charged (along with three others) in connection with an armed robbery in Charleston, South Carolina.

Starks, who is only 19 and hails from Atlanta, Georgia, and former teammate LB Reginald Rice, 22, were charged with armed robbery, first degree burglary, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. The twist in this story is that the victim is apparently one of Starks’ own coaches at The Citadel, assistant coach Joshua Harpe of West Ashley. The ballplayers allegedly tied up Coach Harpe in his home at gun point and took his wallet, electronic equipment and some jewelry.

Others involved in the armed robbery included two College of Charleston students who were also arrested this past weekend.

The Citadel did not release an official statement as the investigation is ongoing but Coach Kevin Higgins did have something to say, “Like the rest of The Citadel community we are shocked, angry and saddened by the alleged events involving Miguel Starks.” “Senseless does not begin to describe the situation. Miguel is an only child, loved and provided well for by his parents Michael and Sharon. He has many talents and football is just one of them.”

At Sunday’s hearing, Starks was denied bail. Starks is still enrolled in the Corps of Cadets, but it looks like the state pen will be his new home.

It is such a sad story, a young man coming from a good home, raised in good environment… coming to charleston in such a area which so much trouble around.. I was hurt to hear his story and will pray for him and his family. I know how these young men acting out when they are disappointed and make the wrong choices. Also I want to mention, we should make sure for the first three years that the students have to stay on campus, so they not to be influenced by their surrounded neighbours or former students. we just have to be involved in those students lifes.

So not like Starks… Not how his family raised him at all… I hate that this happened to him… 20+ years of his life just thrown away… A year or so away of all his dreams coming true and he let it all go… The bigger picture is way more important than the right now… and I think he will understand that now

Are you sure you read all the comments, most of them are saying its not about race, he’s just an idiot. A mistake is when you where black shoes with a blue suit, armed robbery is inexcusable ESPECIALLY for the high standards set by the Citadel. Leaves a scar not only on him, but the school itself.

I am sitting here reading all these comments an its kinda funnt how you all can call him an idiot…..he lost focus….I graduated with Starks in 08 an he isn’t what the papers are making him out to be….Starks has a heart he just made a bad decision. Everyone makes mistakes. This is his first time getting in trouble so he isn’t a bad person so don’t look at him as one. Learn to look past the color an where he is from an realize that he is just another person who made a mistake an knowing him he regrets it an wishes he could change what he did!!

this dude is a chump, no matter how you slice and dice it, he committed armed robbery. Its not a black/white issue, its a stupid/smart issue.

“i bet if it was a black coach a three white males and a white female this situation wouldnt have even made it to the AJC or to Atlanta”

This is nuts. Of course it would hit the news. This isn’t about race, its about a talented athlete who made a HUGE mistake. Somewhere, he lost his focus.

Well None of your comments really matter cause i bet if it was a black coach a three white males and a white female this situation wouldnt have even made it to the AJC or to Atlanta so Race does play a big common factor no one knows what really happen so it best to keep rude comments about color to your self he is a part of my family and Imma hold him down so its whatever

Not sure what he was thinking, its not like he couldnt ID him. Maybe this was Starks’ way of getting back at the coach for lack of playing time.

This guy is an idiot…. How stupid can you be? You robbed your coach who you see every day. Jesus, at least wear a mask. What’s black and white and color too? the “new TV” in the QB’s room
