Oregon has dismissed WR Jamere Holland following a rant on his Facebook page. If this isn’t a sign of the times, then I don’t know what is. The rant began when Oregon linebacker Kristian Kiko Alonso was arrested early Saturday morning on driving under the influence of intoxicants charges.
Holland assumed that Alonso was kicked off of the football team and voiced his strong displeasure of the move. He then later updated his Facebook status by posting: “I wish I could block whites as friends and only have blacks LOL, cause apparently I’m misunderstood.” Apparently, that was all Oregon head coach Chip Kelly needed to see. Holland was told to pack his bags and get to steppin’.
Oregon has had quite the active off-season with having 4 players arrested in the month of February alone. While some may argue that Holland’s punishment may be too severe, no one can argue against the fact that he should have used better judgement. Hopefully he’ll resurface at a Division II school and get a second chance to play ball.
