A young dersving man takes home the Rudy
A big congratulations to this year’s 2009 College Football Rudy Award winner– LeVon Morefield. Mr. Morefield is a non-scholarship athlete who walked-on from Columbus Brookhaven to the University of Akron. Morefield overcame tremendous hurdles to reach this position such as his parents being crack addicts, never having a permanent home, and having no parental role models.
Confronted with adversity, Morefield was able to fulfill his dream of playing college football. His true love and passion for the game drove him to succeed. Despite working 60 hours per week, holding down three jobs, and being bounced around from running back, linebacker, defensive back, and special teams, Morefield never complained and most importantly, never gave up.
We congratulate LeVon Morefield for winning this prestigious award and defying all odds much like famed Notre Dame player Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger.
To claim this accolade, Morefield beat out finalist Brian Coulter of Missouri and O’Darris D’Haiti of Florida International.
