Tommy Tuberville replaces the “Renaissance Man”

It's time for Tuberville to raise his head as he gets a fresh start at Texas Tech

It looks like former Ole Miss and Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville will be back on the sidelines in 2010 as the new head coach for Texas Tech. It is no secret that Tuberville wanted to get back into coaching since he last turned in his whistle. He pretty much submitted his application to every D-1 coaching classified ad. Tuberville was an attractive option because he doesn’t have a lot of restrictions for personnel and most importantly he has no buyout clause.

Tuberville will take over a program in which Mike Leach laid a great foundation. Aside from Leach’s unconventional treatment of players (i.e., Adam James), he was a solid coach and was able to recruit well considering who he competed against in the state of Texas.

Texas Tech has a lot to be excited about as they have never had a coach of this magnitude at the helm. Tuberville brings a solid record to the Red Raiders. As a college coach, he has an overall record of 110-60. In that span, he won 6 bowl games, 1 SEC championship and 5 SEC west titles. Hopefully his past success will prove future success in the Big XII.

Here at The Matador, we wish Tommy all the luck in the world.
