Florida State just highlighted that past success doesn’t mean a thing. Bobby Bowden has been calling the shots for 34 years in Tallahassee. He won the Seminoles a national title, conference championships, and garnered respect among the college football world. Even with all his success, Florida State would not give him one more year at the helm.
A few weeks ago, it was announced that Bowden would voluntarily step down after the Seminole’s Jan. 1 bowl game. Now reports are surfacing that Bowden asked to coach for one more season, but the top brass said “NO,” end of discussion.
Now I get that FSU has been a sub-par team at best for the last few seasons, but after all, Bowden put his heart and soul into the Seminoles. At the very least, he should be able to leave on his own terms.
After Bowden hangs up his whistle on New Year’s Day, FSU football will never be the same.
