Irish turn their back on bowl bid

After a rocky 6-6 season and the departure of head coach Charlie Weis, Notre Dame announced it will not go bowling this season. The Irish’s AD Jack Swarbrick stated that considering “unique circumstances” it is not in the best interest for ND to play this post-season. Thus, the season is officially over.

But as history shows, ND is no stranger to refusing bowl invitations. The team used to live by the creed of playing only a higher-ranked team or one that could improve the Irish’s ranking with a victory. Though ND states this condition no longer exists, it is clear that ND’s 6-6 record would have landed them a lower tier bowl-unacceptable for such a prestigious program.

Though the season is over, all eyes will be on the Irish as they continue their coaching quest.
