For those of you who haven’t heard, there is a new football game called BCFx (Black College Football Experience): The Doug Williams Edition. Now, I’ve been a fan of college football since birth and I’ve been patiently waiting for a game that showcases the culture and spirit that captures the rich cultural history of historically black colleges and universities. However, this game does nothing to capture what could have been a ridiculously awesome game.
From a player’s perspective, it’s just not fun to play. There is no on-line play, career or dynasty modes. The only option you have is season or head-to-head mode. It’s extremely difficult to switch players and it’s littered with choppy animation. Also, far too many passes are dropped or incomplete. The one enjoyable aspect was catching a pass in stride.
Unfortunately, the real highlight of the game is the halftime drum-line challenge which is similar to guitar hero. It’s a basic stand alone game within the game where you beat to the drum cadences and songs. The graphics and sound are very rock-bandesque.
I give the idea an A+, the drum-line challenge, halftime shows, legacy museum and jukebox an A. As for the game play, C- at best.
If this indie studio sold the rights to EA Sports, then this would be one bad ass game.
