AD camps out in freshman dorm, football team fails to win big games

If you are wondering why Marshall’s football team (3-2, defeats at the hands of Va Tech and East Carolina) isn’t doing so well, it could be the fact that the Athletic Director has his mind on other things. Mike Hamrick was hired back in July as Marshall’s AD. Since he was immediately leaving his AD post at UNLV, he advised the president that he needed temporary housing.

Due to budget constraints, the president offered Hamrick residence on-campus in the South Residence Hall. The fact that the president is willing to put his AD in on-campus housing is disturbing enough; however, it gets better or maybe worse. Hamrick, depending how you look at it, was placed in the wing of a female only floor (freshman females no less).

So every night when males are escorted off the floor after hours, Hamrick, 52 years old, gets all the freshman ladies, 18-19 years of age, to himself. When asked about his living experience, Hamrick says it’s quite “enjoyable.”

“I am really impressed with the quality of person we have in our students,” Hamrick said.  “I hope that through this experience, I can add a little spice to their lives.”

Really? “Add a little spice to their lives.”

Conveniently, Hamrick’s wife is still living in Las Vegas but in December the party will end as she plans on moving to Marshall by the end of the semester. In the meantime, Hamrick is stuck adding spice to the lives of the freshman female co-eds.
