Oregon CB Walter Thurmond’s career as an Oregon Duck is over. Oregon’s best defensive back, and Jim Thorpe watchlist candidate, injured his knee during the opening kickoff Saturday against California, a game that Oregon won convincingly 42-3. An MRI was done earlier today and it was decided that Thurmond would need to undergo season ending surgery.
Thurmond has had an illustrious career at Oregon and had a strong start to the 2009 season by scoring two touchdowns in three games. One was off of a punt return while the other was on an interception. He also is the only non-offensive player at Oregon to score 5 touchdowns. Oregon will most definitely miss the versatility that he brought to the Ducks.
