New Mexico coach Mike Locksley has tensions high in Albuquerque this season, and I’m not just talking about on the gridiron either. The first year head coach was issued a verbal reprimand after getting into a fight with his assistant coach. Locksley and WR coach J.B. Gerald had gotten riled up during a coaches meeting when Locksley grabbed Gerald’s collar and punched him the the mouth. Gerald told police what had happened and that Locksley had split his lip.
New Mexico athletic director Paul Krebs added the incident to Locksley’s file but stood by his coach, “I do not believe this is a reflection of his dealings. It’s not a reflection of his character. This does not shake my faith in his leadership whatsoever”.
Locksley’s Lobo’s are 0-4 this year and face off against Texas Tech this Saturday. Maybe some of his players can take a que from his intensity and translate it to the football field. That is, only against members of opposing teams.
