Hubert Thompson was once feared on the gridiron

Former Michigan State Spartan Hubert Thompson was just declared insane by an Illinois judge. On March 30, 2007, Thompson lost a screw and threw his 66 year old neighbor, James Malone, off of the 3rd floor apartment balcony because he thought Malone was trying to kill him. As a result of the fall, Malone died. Thompson was charged with murder and after a long trial was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Thompson will still be punished and will be confined to a mental institution. The judge based his ruling off of Thompson’s extreme delusion and paranoia.

This isn’t the first time Thompson went bananas. During the 2000 Citrus Bowl, Thompson was ejected for fighting with a Florida offensive lineman. Also, during the Saints’ mini camp, he was cut for fighting with a teammate over an exercise bike. Thompson then signed a contract with the Chicago Enforcers of the failed XFL in 2001. All of his failed football adventures could make anyone insane.

Clearly, Thompson has some issues, and the world is a better place with him locked up in a mental institution.
