Iowa State’s back-up TE Kurt Hammerschmidt (rFr. 6’5, 236 lbs.) might have been celebrating too much after the teams 34-17 victory over North Dakota State. On early Monday morning, Hammerschmidt was arrested by university police around 2:00 a.m. for drinking and driving.
AD spokesman Tom Kroeschell confirmed the arrest and coach Paul Rhoads issued a statement announcing his indefinite suspension.
For you Cyclones loyalists, don’t be too concerned, as Hammerschmidt had zero catches in the season opener and was not anticipated to be utilized much in Saturday’s match-up against rival Iowa.
The lesson learned, don’t drink and drive. It’s just not worth it.
