For all you college football fans on the edge of your seats waiting for the kick-off to begin, The Matador wants to remind you that there is a new league in town that kick’s off this Friday night, September 3rd. The inaugural Lingerie Football League (LFL) is an all womens 7-on-7 tackle football league. The LFL is based off of the popular Super Bowl halftime special, the Lingerie Bowl. This pay-per-view draws millions of viewers each year and has become a fan favorite and certainly an impetus to start the LFL.
The inaugural league consists of 10 LFL teams who compete in a 2o week season. The game will have 2 fifteen minute halves with a ten minute halftime show (with possible all male cheerleaders). If there is a tie, there is an 8 minute sudden death OT.
The play is full-contact with each player wearing a helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, knee pads, sports bra, and tiny shorts. Of course, all games will be shot in1080i high-definition so you will not miss a curve.
Notable differences from the college football game include no field goals and no punts. A team must attempt a first down on every fourth down. Instead of a PAT, the team has two options. It can either go for one-point from the two yard line; or, two-points from the five-yard line. Also, the field is only 50 yards long and 30 yards wide. The end-zone is 8 yards deep as opposed to the traditional 10 yards.
Since this is a 7-on-7 league, teams can only dress 12 players and some of these tough women will play iron (wo)man football. A basic formation on offense would be 1 QB, 2 RBs, 1 C, 3 WRs. On defense, 2 DL, 2, LB, 2CB, and a safety.
