QB Cousins edges out Nichol

Coach Mark Dantonio finally named QB Kirk Cousins as the starter for the season opener against Montana State. For you Cousins fans, do not hold your breath, the battle for the starting job is still alive and well.

According to sources, QB Keith Nichol, an Oklahoma transfer, will also take some snaps in the first half. Dantonio believes both QBs have promise, but opted to start Cousins because he has been in the Spartans’ system longer. Last season, he completed 32 of 43 passes for 310 yards as a back-up.

Don’t be surprised if this QB battle continues well into the season.
