CB Jordan Bernstine breaks ankle in practice

The Hawkeye’s secondary took a hit during preseason camp this past Wednesday. CB Jordan Bernstine (Jr. 5’11, 205 lbs.) broke his ankle during special teams drills. He will have surgery to repair the break and will likely miss the 2009 season. He is eligible to red-shirt, but this serves as a huge blow to a player who was so focused and determined to start.

He was projected to be a back-up behind CB Shaun Prater, but during the off season, he flaunted his explosiveness and eye for the ball, that defensive coordinator Norm Parker couldn’t but help but give him the nod to start.

The coaches will miss Bernstine and everyone hopes for a speedy recovery for this Iowa native.
