The 1998 Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL All-Pro is coming out of retirement to begin a new football endeavor.  On Thursday, Ricky Williams was named the new running backs coach for the University of the Incarnate Word.  UIW is a small catholic school in San Antonio, Texas that just transitioned to NCAA Division I and the Southland Conference.

Head coach Larry Kennan knows with Williams on the coaching staff it brings some credibility to the program, “to have him join the coaching staff is a huge boost.”  Williams, one of the most decorated running backs in college history brings solid credentials to UIW.  His trophy case includes the 1998 Heisman Trophy, two Doak Walker and Jim Brown trophies, and both the Walter Camp and Maxwell Award trophies.

Since Williams already accepted a position with the Longhorn Network for the upcoming season, he will only coach on a part-time basis.  The UIW Cardinals kick-off their fifth season August 29th against Central Arkansas.
