Will Frank Beamer’s success on the field translated to success in the kitchen?

Coming off a disappointing 20-23 Sugar Bowl loss to Michigan, Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer wants to shelve football momentarily and focus on the culinary arts. This summer, Coach Beamer anticipates opening his new restaurant, Beamer’s 25, in Roanoke, Virginia, anchored next to the newly renovated apartments in the Lofts at West Station.

A soft opening was held on Wednesday night where it was announced that Beamer’s 25 will be open to the public later in June. The “25” will represent 25 craft beers on tap complemented by an array of local fare. The restaurant will have indoor and outdoor patio seating for approximately 100-150 patrons. From the Lofts’ Facebook page, “Beamer’s 25 embraces those same principles and will seek out the best foods and craft beers made right here in the State of Virginia.”

Beamer's American Grill closed its doors after 18 months.

This is not Beamer’s first endeavor in the restaurant business as he already failed on two other occasions. His first, Beamer’s Steakhouse, located in Christianburg, Virginia, closed its doors in 2007 after failing to attract big time spenders. Most recently, Beamer’s American Grill, located at Peninsula Town Center in Hampton, Virginia, closed after 18 months of operation.

The iconic coach does not know the definition of failure, but if Beamer’s 25 falls short, perhaps he should consider it an omen that he should just focus on football. After all, he is 0-2 as a restaurant owner while he is 250-120-4 as a head coach.
