It is no wonder freshman running back Colin Ferring has yet to see playing time on the field or was not recruited by a BCS school—he has no speed or agility. This past weekend the freshman Waukon native decided to get drunk and make bad decisions. After a hard night of drinking, Ferring scampered onto campus and stole a Coe College utility vehicle.
As Ferring and five of his cohorts were joyriding in the stolen John Deere Gator, police officers initiated a routine traffic stop. Rather than stopping the vehicle, getting out, and complying with the officers’ request, Ferring did what he thought he did best—run. Unfortunately and in embarrassing fashion, Ferring showed why he played Div. III football, he was caught from behind after a very short foot chase. In an attempt to save face, Ferring refused to be arrested struggling with the officers, but that failed miserably as officers used a taser to subdue him.
Ferring was immediately transported to Linn County Jail and was cited for possession of alcohol under the legal age, public intoxication, and interference with official acts (for stealing the John Deere Gator).
Though his status on the team and enrollment in Coe College remains to be seen, after this run-in with the law, it’s pretty safe to say Ferring’s days on the Kohawks football team are numbered.
