Tate Forcier Turns Pro, Signs with the Tiger-Cats

After two turbulent seasons with Michigan, a transfer request to Miami, and a brief stint with San Jose State, quarterback Tate Forcier has finally ended his college football quest and found a new home in the pro ranks.  Over the weekend, the once highly touted quarterback decided to take his talents north signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL).   After Forcier dropped out of San Jose State, he teamed up with San Francisco 49ers...

Illinois is desperate for fans, ticket prices reduced

Coming off a paltry 7-6 season with only two conference wins, Illinois athletic direct Mike Thomas is taking his first steps in generating fan support by lowering ticket prices for the upcoming season. Season tickets for sideline tickets are being reduced from $40 per game to roughly $32.86 per game. Individual conference game tickets are priced at $50 per game and non-conference games will sell for $25 per game. With a not so stellar home slate consisting of Western...

Penn State launches new web site, opens the books

In the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal, Penn State president Rodney A. Erickson recently launched a new web site, http://openness.psu.edu/, that offers readers complete access to key financial and contractual documents that were historically blocked from public view. Erickson stated that this web site is a “commitment to open communication” responsive to harsh criticism that Penn State’s internal operations were held in secret. Michigan recruit targets Ohio State

The rivalry between “the team up north” and “that school down south” takes no breaks during the off-season. Michigan’s top recruit Ondre Pipkins, who’s letter of intent is still hot of the presses, truly understands the animosity between the two schools. In a radio interview on Ann Arbor’s WTKA, the 6-foot-3, 320-pound defensive tackle spoke his piece about Ohio State and its recruits. Pipkins matched up against Ohio State’s top offensive lineman recruit Kyle Dodson in last week’s Army...

Controversial church to disrupt Joe Paterno funeral

With the college football world mourning the death of legendary coach Joe Paterno, one disgraceful group is celebrating his passing and plans to stage a protest during his funeral. Upon learning of Paterno’s death, the Westboro Baptist Church (“WBC”) tweeted to the nation that “He’s in Hell.” The fiery Margie Phelps, the daughter of WBC Pastor Fred Phelps and general counsel, regaled Paterno’s passing by publishing some disturbing tweets. The WBC, based in Topeka, Kansas, is known for its extreme and controversial views and sends its message...

Minnesota unveils new look

Head coach Jerry Kill made it very clear to Nike that the University of Minnesota wants a new look that captures the essence of the Gophers’ rich football tradition and history. After coming off a 3-9 season, it looks like Nike did exactly as asked–the Gophers unveiled their brand new Nike Pro-Combat look with a taste of old-school without the flair that other Nike school’s flash. Players showed off the eight different combinations of gold, white and maroon jerseys...

Bill O’Brien is good for Penn State

Now that the dust has settled, it is clear that Penn State’s acquisition of New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien will prove to be a good move for a scandal-ravaged university. For the first time in nearly half a century there will be no Paterno on the Penn State sidelines. This move is exactly what Penn State needed to do in taking that monumental leap in rebranding itself after a horrific past few months. Though several former players...

Big 10 ends bowl season with much needed win

The Big 10 bowl season concluded last night after Michigan narrowly escaped Virginia Tech in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The final bowl tally for the conference is 4-6. The record could have been a disappointing 2-8 had it not been for Michigan State’s heroic come-from-behind triple OT win against Georgia and some extremely poor coaching by Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer in last night’s game. The Big 10 struggled overall with Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Penn State, Northwestern, and Ohio State...
