Edwards mows his foot

Appalachian State‘s QB Aramanti Edwards was a blade away from winning the coveted Darwin Award. Edwards, who was mowing his lawn at his off-campus residence, somehow got his right foot caught in the mower causing injuries. He was immediately treated and released from Watauga Medical Center. The injury is not life threatening but will require him to stay off his foot and miss two to four weeks of practice. Coach Jerry Moore is hopeful that Edwards will have fully recovered...

Hendricks watch list is out

Each season, the top defensive end is awarded the Ted Hendricks trophy after famed three time All-American and NFL hall of famer Ted Hendricks. Unlike other awards, when determining who wins, the voters look at on-field performance, leadership abilities and contributions to school and community. The candidates may represent any class (freshman through senior) as well as any recognized four-year NCAA member school (Division I through Division III). Last season, NFL 1st round pick Brian Orakpo, University of Texas (2008),...

Come to the Swamp, smoke-free

The Gainsville Sun reports this morning that the University will ban smoking throughout the campus next July. However, the ban comes early for Ben Hill Griffen Stadium and its fans. Owens is Sentenced for his DUI

Florida State’s Rod Owens resolved his April DUI this past Wednesday. His sentence was fair considering the events that surrounded his arrest. He received 6 months probation, 50 hours of community service, six months of having his drivers license revoked, and DUI school. At the time of his arrest, the team suspended Owens indefinitely, but since this matter is now resolved he may be looking at only a one game suspension. FSU has had problems in the past at...

LeFevour is a star

For the second straight season, Dan LeFevour (Sr., 6-3 229 lbs.) has graced Comerica Park with an obnoxiously large billboard. LeFevour is arguably one of the top QBs statistically in the nation. This season, he is bound to break several offensive MAC records. As of now, he has 11,702 yards of total offense, just 382 yards behind Byron Leftwich’s record. He has thrown for 74 TDs, only 26 behind Chad Pennington.  He should eclipse Leftwich’s record by game 1...

OVC ditches traditional media day

In an attempt to save money, the Ohio Valley Conference did away with its traditional media day and instead replaced it with a teleconference media day which just wrapped up on Tuesday.  “Obviously with the financial constraints everyone’s feeling with the economy, I think this is a wise decision,” Eastern Kentucky coach Dean Hood said. For those of you who missed out, all the teleconferences are available on-line
