Florida State’s Rod Owens resolved his April DUI this past Wednesday. His sentence was fair considering the events that surrounded his arrest. He received 6 months probation, 50 hours of community service, six months of having his drivers license revoked, and DUI school.
At the time of his arrest, the team suspended Owens indefinitely, but since this matter is now resolved he may be looking at only a one game suspension.
FSU has had problems in the past at wide receiver considering two-thirds of the group have been suspended or arrested during the past 24 months. Former Florida State receiver Preston Parker was dismissed from the team earlier this year after his third arrest since 2006; Five receivers were involved in a fight outside the student union last fall; Bert Reed was suspended for missing class and ultimately was suspended three times in a one-month period; and, Surrency was suspended twice last year.
Owens is a 5th year senior who had 15 catches for 183 yards last season. He is projected to back-up Richard Goodman (Sr. 6’0, 191 lbs.).
Let’s hope Bowden can get some self-discipline in his players before the season kicks-off September 7th against in-state rival Miami.
